FAQ
Does micro needling hurt?
Most clients describe it as pressure and warmth rather than pain. Some areas - around the nose and hairline - are more sensitive than others, but nothing that should put you off. We apply a cooling post treatment mask to help soothe any heat by the time you leave the cabin.
How many sessions will I need, and how far apart should they be?
A single session gets your skin's repair process started, but a course of 3 is where micro needling really earns its keep, since each visit builds on the collagen response the last one triggered. We space sessions a few weeks apart to give your skin time to rebuild between visits. We'll confirm the right spacing for you at your consult.
What's the downtime like?
Expect redness for 24 to 48 hours, similar to a mild sunburn, and your skin may feel slightly tight or sensitive for a day or two after that. Most clients are comfortable going straight back to normal activities, with SPF50 and a gentle skincare routine while your skin settles.
Who shouldn't get micro needling?
Micro needling isn't the right fit if you have active acne breakouts, cold sores, skin infections, or an impaired healing response in the treatment area. It's also not suitable during pregnancy. A consult before booking will confirm whether it's the right fit for your skin.
When will I see results?
You'll notice an initial glow within a few days as your skin settles, but the real change - refined texture, smaller-looking pores, firmer-feeling skin - builds over the following weeks as your own collagen and elastin rebuild. Results keep improving for weeks after each session, which is exactly why a course outperforms a single visit.
What's the difference between Micro Needling and Micro Needling Plus?
Both use the same ProPen device and RATIONALE enzyme peel prep. The difference is what we work into the micro-channels afterwards. Micro Needling uses a treatment solution matched to your skin's goals that day - hydrating, brightening, calming, or clarifying. Micro Needling Plus uses Medik8's Exo-PDRN Prismatic+ Pro Concentrate, a clinic-only formula built for deeper, longer-lasting repair.
What is Medik8's Exo-PDRN Prismatic+ Pro Concentrate?
It's a clinic-exclusive concentrate built to pair with in-clinic treatments like micro needling. It's double the strength of Medik8's retail Exo-PDRN serum, delivering over 300 billion exosomes and Prismatic PDRN, a stable structure engineered to absorb deeper into the skin. Dual MiniProteins and an ATP precursor work alongside this to speed up recovery, reinforce your skin barrier, and support your own collagen, elastin, and hyaluronic acid. Medik8's own testing shows results up to 5 times more powerful when paired with micro needling than micro needling alone.
Is the Pro Concentrate the same as the Exo-PDRN serum I can buy from Iris?
No - the Pro Concentrate we use in clinic is double the strength of the retail serum and is only available through certified clinics like ours. If you want to keep supporting your skin's exosome and PDRN levels between sessions, our Exo-PDRN Prismatic+ serum is the at-home version, designed to complement your in-clinic results rather than replace them.
Should I book a single session or the course?
A single session is a good way to try micro needling and see how your skin responds. But collagen rebuilding compounds, so if you're after real, lasting change, a course of 3 is where the treatment proves itself, each session building on the last rather than starting over. The course also works out better value than three single sessions.
