Madurai is the jasmine capital of India — the city where jasmine is grown, traded and worn in enormous quantities, woven into hair, piled onto market stalls, scenting the air of the temple. This fragrance starts somewhere brighter than that: lemon, bergamot, turmeric and clary sage give the opening a vivid, almost electric quality — the colour of turmeric in sunlight — before jasmine sambac, tuberose and tagete take over in the heart. The sandalwood and suede base brings it to a warm, creamy finish. A big floral that never feels heavy, a jasmine that never tips into sweetness.
