Bergamot, lime and verbena open with a crisp lift; ambrettolide — a natural musk from ambrette seed — takes over in the dry-down: skin-close and lightly animalistic rather than soapy. Not all of Heretic is dark and subversive — Bergamusk is evidence. A straightforward pairing of bergamot (with lavender, lime, thyme and verbena) with ambrettolide, a skin musk from ambrette seed that sits close to the body rather than projecting. Clean and bright without being soapy; musky without being heavy. Douglas Little designed the Heretic range to work like watercolours — individual scents that are deliberately uncomplicated and layer well with each other. Bergamusk is one of the easier starting points: accessible enough for everyday wear, distinctive enough to feel considered.
